Russian forces attack key heights near Slovyansk

Russian forces are launching attacks on key heights near Slovyansk, including the Chobitok forest and several command heights on the eastern edge of the city. According to military analyst Yuriy Butusov, the loss of these positions could significantly worsen the situation for Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region.

Slovyansk and Kramatorsk represent a critical natural defensive line. If these cities fall, it could lead to the loss of the entire Donbas region. Such a development might also increase pressure from the United States and Europe on Kyiv to accept Russian terms for ending the conflict, potentially using the loss of territory and reduced funding as arguments for a change in military strategy.

To bolster the defense, there are proposals to expand the area of responsibility for the 3rd Corps commander, Biletsky, to include the Slovyansk sector and the Kostyantynivka battleground. Meanwhile, the supreme commander has appointed a new commander to lead the defense of Kramatorsk.
