Russian Forces Claim Tactical Gains in Ukraine's Kharkiv Region

On August 3 2026 the Russian Defence Ministry reported that units of its “North” grouping had taken control of the settlements of Bely Kolodez and Ustinovka in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. The statement listed further tactical advances near Dobropolye, Seversk and other localities, and claimed Ukrainian losses of more than 155 personnel, two armoured vehicles, 19 other vehicles, three artillery pieces and several electronic‑warfare stations. Ukrainian General Staff data for the same day recorded 207 clashes and intense drone‑artillery exchanges across the front.

Separate analysis of the broader front indicates that Russian territorial gains have been shrinking since November 2025. In April 2026 the Institute for the Study of War noted a monthly loss of 116 km² for Russian‑held areas, the first such decline since mid‑2023. Russian authorities are preparing a large mobilisation of up to 500,000 reservists, with offers of additional troops from North Korea, underscoring the continued intensity of the conflict despite the slowing advance.
