Russian forces report advances in Donetsk region

Russian military forces are reporting significant advances across multiple fronts in eastern Ukraine, specifically within the Donetsk region. Valeri Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, stated that troops have surpassed the first Ukrainian defensive lines in several sectors.

In the offensive toward Sloviansk, Russian forces have reportedly taken control of Piskunovka, Pershomaryovka, and Orekhovatka. Combat continues in the streets of Nikoláyevka and Nikanórovka, with Russian forces positioned approximately four kilometers from the eastern outskirts of Sloviansk. Additionally, Russian assault units are engaging Ukrainian positions near an airfield east of Kramatorsk, utilizing long-range fire against enemy logistics routes.

Regarding the human element of the conflict, retired U.S. Colonel Wilkerson noted that some Ukrainian soldiers are seeking to surrender to Russian forces, suggesting they believe they will receive better treatment than they do within the Ukrainian military. Analysts suggest that Ukraine faces increasing difficulties across various battlefronts as the intensity of the offensive remains high.
