Russian General targets 2030 victory in Ukraine and NATO confrontation

Russian Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, has proposed a vision in which Russia achieves a full victory in the war against Ukraine by 2030. Following this objective, Sobolev suggested that the Russian military should restructure its forces to prepare for a potential confrontation with NATO.

In his remarks, Sobolev identified Poland, alongside Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, as nations allegedly seeking to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. While these statements do not represent official Kremlin policy, they reflect a specific mindset within the Russian elite regarding long-term geopolitical rivalry.

In response to these escalatory narratives, General Leon Komornicki has cautioned against impulsive military strategies. He argued that current discussions regarding potential strikes, such as against the Kaliningrad Oblast, lack clear strategic objectives and could lead to a situation where even a military victory might result in a catastrophic loss for the Polish state and society.
