Russian glide‑bomb strike on Zaporizhzhia kills one, wounds dozens
Russian aircraft dropped eight Soviet‑era glide bombs, fitted with guidance systems and each capable of carrying up to 3,000 kg of explosives, on residential districts of the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia over a 90‑minute period. The attack killed a 71‑year‑old woman, wounded 31 people—including a 16‑year‑old girl—and damaged 22 apartment buildings across four districts.
Regional chief Ivan Fedorov said Ukraine has no effective counter‑measures against these weapons. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged allies to provide more US‑made Patriot air‑defence systems, noting shortages caused by the Iran war. US President Donald Trump said a licence for Ukraine to produce Patriots remains under discussion. In the same timeframe Russia launched 181 long‑range strike drones; Ukrainian air defences intercepted 163, while 14 drones caused damage at 13 locations. The Russian Defence Ministry also reported striking four bulk carriers carrying cargo for Ukraine’s armed forces.
