Russian Kremlin critic Semyon Skrepetsky shot dead in Poland

Russian artist and outspoken Kremlin critic Semyon Skrepetsky was shot multiple times on a street in Biała Podlaska, Poland, about 35 km from the Belarus border. Police said the 44‑year‑old victim was targeted, the shooter escaped and has not been apprehended. Polish authorities have not released the victim’s name, but opposition media identified him as Skrepetsky, who has lived in exile in Poland since 2021 and is known for satirical cartoons of Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko and Soviet-era leaders.

The motive remains unclear, though police suggested a planned killing. Skrepetsky’s death follows several high‑profile attacks on Kremlin critics abroad, including the 2018 shooting of opposition politician Denys Woroniak in Kyiv and the poisoning of activists such as Sergei Skripal and Alexei Nawalny.
