Sevastopol bombing kills high-ranking Russian naval officer
A Russian naval officer was killed in a bomb attack in Sevastopol, Crimea, on Thursday morning. The explosion occurred on Stoletovsky Prospekt when an explosive device, reportedly hidden in a trash bin, detonated as the victim was walking.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a 32-year-old Russian woman in connection with the incident. Authorities claim she was acting under instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services. Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev stated that the suspect showed no remorse during questioning.
While official identities have not been confirmed by the state, various media reports and Telegram channels have identified the deceased as Robert Shageyev. Shageyev was reportedly a former captain in the Ukrainian Navy who commanded the submarine Zaporizhzhia before defecting to Russia following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. He had since risen to the rank of deputy commander within the Russian Black Sea Fleet's 4th Submarine Brigade.
