RER Vest sanitation operator in Oradea hit by cyberattack

The sanitation operator RER Vest in Oradea has reported a cyberattack involving unauthorized access to the database of its ‘Contul-meu’ application. The breach, identified as occurring on October 7, targeted the entire database, exposing sensitive customer information.

Exposed data includes full names, client codes, billing addresses, waste collection point locations, email addresses, and phone numbers. The breach also compromised user authentication and session data, as well as billing history, payment amounts, due dates, and transaction records.

While the company has not confirmed if the data was successfully copied, the unauthorized individual claims to possess the information. RER Vest has suspended the portal as of October 8 and warned customers of potential fraud attempts via SMS, email, or phone. The company noted that bank card details were not affected, as they are processed by a third-party payment provider and not stored by the operator.
