Russian Missile Strike Hits Zelensky’s Hometown, Kills Six Including Two Children

A Russian ballistic Iskander‑M missile and a hypersonic Cyrkon projectile struck the outskirts of Krzywy Róg, the hometown region of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on 30 July 2026. The attack killed six people – two girls aged 5 and 12 and four adults – and caused extensive damage to homes.

The strike occurred hours after Zelensky met U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, where they discussed Patriot missile‑interceptor production and diplomatic support. Fragments of the missiles also fell in Poland, creating a ten‑meter crater near Tarnawa‑Kolonia in the Lublin region; Polish authorities are investigating the incident.

Ukrainian Defence Council head Oleksandr Vykhul confirmed the casualties and the use of both missile types, highlighting the rapid flight speed of the Cyrkon and the difficulty for radar and air‑defence systems to react.
