Russia's MS-21-310 aircraft completes 30% of testing program

Russia's MS-21-310 passenger aircraft has completed only 30% of its testing program and has yet to receive the necessary flight certification required for commercial operation. While aviation experts, including Oleg Panteleev of Aviaport, suggest the aircraft's design and cabin space may surpass competitors like the Boeing 737 MAX, Airbus A320neo, and China's C919, the project remains in a pre-commercial stage.

Industry experts warn that the project faces significant logistical hurdles. Pilot Oleg Smirnov notes that the aircraft cannot be considered a finished product until official certification is obtained. Furthermore, there are concerns regarding post-sale technical support and supply chain readiness. The industry points to the Sukhoi Superjet as a cautionary tale, where a lack of spare parts and maintenance networks led to grounded fleets. For the MS-21-310 to succeed, developers must establish a robust ecosystem of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services and reliable component logistics to prevent operational disruptions.
