Russian opposition figure Sergei Vlasenko found dead in Warsaw

Russian opposition figure Sergei Vlasenko was found dead in an apartment in the Mokotów district of Warsaw, Poland.

Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesperson for the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office, stated that at this stage, there is no evidence suggesting the involvement of third parties in the death. Medical documentation was found at the scene, and an autopsy along with toxicological examinations are scheduled for Wednesday.

Vlasenko, who served as a local official in the Russian Far East during the 1980s, had sought refuge in Poland following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He initially entered the country on a tourist visa before obtaining political asylum. He was associated with the Congress of People's Deputies, an opposition organization of former Russian deputies that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office has labeled an ‘unwanted organization’.
