Russian refinery crisis threatens diesel export promises
Russian maritime exports of petroleum products fell by 32 percent in August, according to data indicating a crisis in the country's refining infrastructure. Despite claims regarding the potential for Russia to supply significant volumes of diesel to global and U.S. markets, technical data suggests a decline in productive capacity.
Reports indicate a discrepancy between political promises and technical reality. While there have been discussions regarding Russia providing approximately 300,000 tons of diesel to markets, Vladimir Putin has only confirmed a theoretical availability of oil and refined products, omitting specific quantities, deadlines, or logistical details. This situation follows a G7 agreement to release 100 million barrels of oil over a four-month period.
