Russian resistance movement targets military infrastructure in new ARD documentary

A new ARD documentary, ‘Schattenkrieger - Russen helfen der Ukraine’ (Shadow Warriors - Russians Help Ukraine), explores the underground resistance movement within Russia against the regime of Vladimir Putin.

The film features an anonymized individual known as Ivan, who describes himself as a Russian patriot working to destabilize the current government. Acting on behalf of the Ukrainian intelligence service, Ivan and similar underground networks engage in sabotage operations targeting Russian military infrastructure. These activities include using improvised explosives to destroy long-range bombers and conducting attacks with armed drones.

Journalist Marcin Mamon, who participated in the planning of some sabotage acts, describes the environment as a ‘shadow war’ of agents and double agents. The documentary highlights the constant risk faced by these individuals, who must maintain a normal appearance in cities like Moscow to avoid detection by surveillance cameras and arrest.
