Russian Supreme Court Chief visits China to inspect judicial digitalization
Igor Krasnov, Chairman of the Russian Supreme Court, visited China to inspect the digitalization of judicial institutions. During his official visit, Krasnov met with Zhang Jun, President of the Supreme People's Court of China, in Beijing to tour the Smart Court Laboratory.
The laboratory, established in late 2019, serves as a national platform for the development and application of digital technology within the Chinese judicial system. It utilizes an artificial intelligence platform trained on hundreds of millions of legal documents to act as an intelligent assistant for judges. This technology is designed to automate routine procedures, potentially reducing time costs for judges by 30% to 40%. A core principle of the system is that AI serves only as an assistant; it is strictly prohibited from making independent rulings, with all final legal responsibility remaining with human judges.
Krasnov praised the systematic and pragmatic nature of the Chinese technological approach and expressed a desire for increased professional dialogue and experience exchange between the two nations' judicial experts.
