Russia's Air Force Holds Largest Fighter Fleet in Europe
According to The National Interest, Russia's Aerospace Forces (VKS) operate more than 900 fighter aircraft, the largest frontline fighter fleet in Europe. The core of the fleet consists of multirole Su‑30 and Su‑35 variants, the bomber Su‑34, and the domestically produced fifth‑generation Su‑57.
The analysis ranks Russia ahead of other European operators such as Turkey, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany. It also notes that air superiority depends on pilot skill, command, logistics, intelligence and integration with air‑defence systems, and compares the Russian force with the United States Air Force, which remains the largest globally.
