Russia's Il-114-300 aircraft achieves icing sensor certification

The Il-114-300, a Russian short-haul turboprop passenger aircraft designed for domestic flights and regions with limited airport infrastructure, has reached a technical milestone. The SO-114 icing warning device, developed by the Aerospace Systems Design Bureau (OKB Aerosens), has officially received certification.

The SO-114 sensor functions by detecting changes in its own resonant frequency; as ice accumulates on the sensor surface, the vibration frequency drops, triggering an immediate alarm to the aircraft's anti-icing system. This development is part of a broader effort to localize production within the Russian aviation industry.

Under the coordination of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and the state corporation Rostec, the Il-114-300 program aims for component autonomy. Most systems, including the airframe, engines, and avionics, are produced by domestic Russian enterprises.
