Russia's Jan‑May 2026 foreign trade surplus rises 9.4% to $59 billion
Russia's Federal Customs Service reported that total foreign trade in the January‑May period of 2026 reached $295.7 billion, up 8.3% from the same period a year earlier. Exports grew 8.5% to $177.4 billion, while imports rose 8.1% to $118.3 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $59.1 billion – a 9.4% increase over the $54 billion surplus recorded in early 2025.
Minerals and mineral products accounted for 54.2% of exports, whereas machinery, equipment and related goods made up 48.6% of imports. Trade with Asian countries dominated, representing 74.8% of total volume and expanding 12.4% year‑on‑year. European trade held an 18% share with a modest 0.2% rise, while trade with the Americas fell 5.6% to 3.7% of the total, and Africa slipped 9.5% to 3.4%.
