Russia to rejoin 2027 Volleyball Nations League

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced that both the men’s and women’s Russian national teams will take part in the 2027 Volleyball Nations League (VNL), ending their suspension that began in 2022. To accommodate Russia’s return, the tournament will be expanded for the 2027 edition from 18 to 19 teams in each gender category. The additional slot also secures places for Finland’s men’s team and Slovenia’s women’s team, the latter making its VNL debut.

Russia has voluntarily withdrawn from the 2027 Men’s World Championship in Poland, citing security and political considerations. The FIVB said a comprehensive anti‑doping programme, overseen by the International Testing Agency, will be implemented for the 2027 season in line with IOC recommendations. The federation continues to review the competition format needed for the expanded field.
