Russia's PD-8 engine achieves certification for SJ-100
The PD-8 turbofan engine has officially received certification, marking a significant milestone in Russia's efforts to domesticate the SJ-100 Superjet commercial aircraft. Representatives from the United Engine Corporation (ODK) described the development process as unique, noting that the entire design and manufacturing cycle for this complex propulsion system was completed in just six years.
Despite this achievement, industry experts urge caution regarding the engine's long-term reliability. Oleg Panteleyev, CEO of the Aviaport Analysis Agency, stated that while certification is a necessary step, the true measure of success will be the system's ability to maintain stable operations during actual flight. Intensive flight testing programs for the SJ-100 equipped with PD-8 engines are currently underway to identify and resolve any unforeseen technical issues before full operational deployment.
