Russia's PD-8 engine passes rigorous testing for mass production

Russian aviation expert Oleg Panteleev has defended the safety of the domestically produced PD-8 turbofan engine, stating that the rapid development process has not compromised operational standards. The engine is a critical project for Russia's goal of technological autonomy, designed to replace the SaM146 engines on the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) narrow-body aircraft and Be-200 firefighting planes.

Despite the accelerated timeline, Panteleev asserted that the engine has passed rigorous testing and is ready for mass production. This follows concerns from some experts, including flight safety official Andrey Patrakov, regarding potential technical risks in complex components like the combustion chamber and automated control systems if development stages are rushed. However, Panteleev maintains that strict aviation inspection standards were strictly followed throughout the process.
