Russia’s Possible Offensive Heightens Security Risks for Europe

A security analyst warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin may seek a short‑window opportunity to launch a major offensive in Europe before the end of September. The analyst cited NATO’s strained coordination, the depleted air defence of Kyiv and mounting pressures in the Middle East as factors that could embolden Moscow.

The warning also noted that Russia has already targeted the Baltic region, accusing Latvia of supporting Ukrainian operations, and that a Russian bomber was observed near a NATO fleet in the North Sea. Parallel commentary warned that if Putin profits from the invasion of Ukraine, similar aggressions could spread, especially if Iran gains control over the Strait of Hormuz or advances its nuclear programme.

U.S. President Joe Biden has pledged additional military aid to Ukraine, but the delivery of weapons will take time, leaving a period of heightened vulnerability for NATO members and neighbouring states.
