Russia's Rassvet-3 satellite constellation poses countermeasure challenges

As Russia deploys its Rassvet-3 satellite constellation, operated by Bureau 1440, questions have arisen regarding how Ukraine might counter this Starlink-style network. While physical destruction of the satellites is considered technically unfeasible for Ukraine, the concept of kinetic interception remains a theoretical method for neutralizing such systems.

Kinetic interception involves a high-precision, hypersonic collision between two objects in space. This method requires advanced technology, such as an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker capable of high frame rates and perfect resolution to ensure an accurate hit. A real-world example of this capability was demonstrated in 2019 during an Indian test of the PDV Mk-II interceptor missile, which successfully targeted the Microsat-R satellite in low Earth orbit.
