Russo Brothers clarify Doctor Doom and Iron Man connection
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have addressed fan speculation regarding the upcoming Marvel Studios films, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. The filmmakers clarified that there is ‘absolutely no similarity’ between the character Victor Von Doom and Iron Man, despite both being portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. They emphasized that the performance of Doom will be independent of Downey’s previous role as Tony Stark.
Joe Russo noted that watching the extended version of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is essential to follow the narrative progression leading into ‘Doomsday’. The production also utilized motion capture technology to bring the character of Doctor Doom to life, allowing for greater experimentation with the character's digital presence.
Regarding the scale of these upcoming projects, Anthony Russo stated that the studio is pushing the boundaries of large-ensemble storytelling. While the Russo brothers are managing the production of two major films in sequence, they noted that their role is to connect specific narrative threads within the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than being responsible for the entire franchise.
