Russo brothers link Avengers: Endgame to upcoming Doomsday film

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have stated that rewatching ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is essential for understanding the upcoming Marvel Studios film, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. To facilitate this connection, Marvel is releasing a special edition titled ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ in theaters on September 25, 2026.

This extended version will have a runtime of approximately 185 minutes, including about four minutes of new footage and an exclusive preview of ‘Doomsday’. Joe Russo noted that there is a ‘natural progression’ from ‘Endgame’ to ‘Doomsday’, and the new material is designed to bridge the narrative gap between the two films.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The film features a massive ensemble cast, including the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Doctor Doom, alongside characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Marketing efforts for the film are also highlighting immersive viewing experiences through formats like ScreenX.
