Avengers: Endgame creators reveal alternate character deaths and unfilmed plotlines

Filmmakers and writers of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ have shared behind-the-scenes details regarding character decisions and unfilmed plot points.

Co-writer Stephen McFeely revealed that an early draft of the film featured Hawkeye making the sacrifice for the Soul Stone on Vormir instead of Black Widow. McFeely noted that female employees at Marvel intervened, arguing against taking the heroic moment away from Natasha Romanoff. He stated, “Don’t you do this to her. Don’t you take her heroic moment and give it to him.”

Additionally, directors Joe and Anthony Russo discussed the decision to leave Captain America’s mission of returning the Infinity Stones off-screen. While they considered using a montage to depict Steve Rogers traveling through time, they ultimately decided the scale of the task was too complex for a montage to sustain. Joe Russo remarked that the idea was a “great idea” but felt it would have played past the film's intended ending.
