Rustam Zhoirev appointed head of Uzbekistan President's State Security Service

The President of Uzbekistan issued a decree appointing Rustam Mirzaevich Zhoirev as chairman of the Presidential State Security Service and granting him the special rank of general‑lieutenant. Zhoirev, born in 1968 in Tashkent, has spent nearly four decades in Uzbekistan’s law‑enforcement structures, rising from investigative work to leadership roles in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, and as first deputy interior minister heading the Public Safety Department since January 2026.

He replaces Alisher Usmonov, who was relieved of the post. The appointment was announced by the presidential press secretary and includes Zhoirev’s responsibility for coordinating state security, overseeing the service’s activities, and implementing the president’s security directives.
