Ruszin-Szendi demands accountability over gold convoy and military surveillance

Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, a former military commander, has raised serious allegations regarding both the ‘gold convoy’ incident and political surveillance within the Hungarian Defense Forces.

Regarding the gold convoy case—in which authorities seized tons of gold and cash from a Ukrainian shipment on the M3 motorway in March 2026—Ruszin-Szendi has called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to clarify whether he personally ordered the interception. He noted that while police officers are currently under suspicion for document forgery, a former prosecutor has claimed the order originated from the highest political level. The Central Investigative Chief Prosecutor's Office confirmed that five people, including the director of the Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK) and a leader from the Constitution Protection Office, have been questioned.

Separately, Ruszin-Szendi revealed he has been the subject of extensive internal reports by the Hungarian Defense Forces. He claims that following his public support for Péter Magyar in February 2025, the military produced detailed, weekly reports analyzing his personality, political communications, and public appearances. He criticized the use of the military for partisan political purposes, stating that such surveillance contradicts military professional principles.
