Rutgers to wear special uniforms honoring September 11 victims

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano announced that the Scarlet Knights will wear special uniforms to honor the lives lost during the September 11 attacks during their upcoming game against Boston College. The matchup, scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, at Alumni Stadium, coincides with Boston College’s annual ‘Red Bandanna Game.’ This event honors Welles Crowther, a former Boston College student and volunteer firefighter who died saving people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

The Rutgers uniforms will feature stars and stripes on the helmet numbers and the phrase ‘Never Forget’ on the right leg of the pants. The tribute also recognizes the 37 Rutgers alumni who lost their lives on September 11.

This game follows a difficult season opener for Rutgers, where the team suffered a 37-21 loss to UMass. Schiano described the performance as ‘embarrassing’ and noted that AJ Surace will start at quarterback for the upcoming game against the Eagles.
