Ruth Kadiri advises young couples to avoid expensive weddings
Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has advised young Nigerian couples to avoid spending excessively on elaborate wedding ceremonies. In a video shared on Instagram, Kadiri argued that large-scale celebrations, including multiple traditional, court, and white weddings, can create unnecessary mental and emotional pressure on a marriage.
Kadiri, who has been married for approximately seven years, suggested that the expectations attached to grand weddings can make the transition from dating to marriage psychologically overwhelming. She noted that while many couples enjoy dating, the responsibilities and societal pressures associated with a large wedding can trigger fear or uncertainty.
To mitigate this, the actress recommended simpler arrangements, such as paying the bride price, completing legal court requirements, and hosting small ceremonies with approximately 30 guests. She encouraged couples to focus on their relationships and celebrate privately with close family and friends rather than attempting to satisfy societal or family expectations through expensive events.
