Ruth Odinga to contest 2027 Kisumu gubernatorial seat via primaries

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has announced her intention to contest for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. She stated that she will not seek a direct nomination from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, opting instead to participate in the party primaries.

Odinga emphasized her commitment to a level playing field, noting that she has historically opposed being handed a direct ticket without competition. She mentioned that her decision to run is informed by her political experience and her background as a chief executive of a major company in Kisumu. She intends to succeed the current Governor, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.
