R+V Insurance warns heat can damage medicines

R+V Insurance’s health‑safety Infocenter warns that storing medicines at high temperatures can alter their quality and effectiveness. Fat‑rich suppositories, creams, salves and asthma inhalers are especially vulnerable; heat can melt or change consistency, cause uneven active‑ingredient distribution, or raise inhaler pressure. The insurer recommends keeping drugs at 15‑25 °C, protecting them from direct sun, moisture and car interiors. Use shaded, cool spots such as under the front seat, avoid glove‑box or dashboard storage, and for longer trips use insulated bags that keep items away from cooling packs. Store medications in a cool, dry, dark cabinet at home or while traveling.
