R+V Versicherung has issued safety advice regarding the use of paddling pools on balconies during hot weather. Residents are advised to consult their rental agreements or house rules to ensure compliance with local regulations.
Key safety concerns include the structural load of the balcony. Because water is heavy—one liter weighs approximately one kilogram—the combined weight of the pool, water, people, and furniture can exceed the balcony's capacity. Additionally, users must avoid disturbing neighbors with noise or splashing water onto lower balconies. To prevent water damage to building facades or neighboring properties, water should be drained in a controlled manner, such as through a shower or bathtub inside the apartment.
Separately, the insurer warned of increased aquaplaning risks during heavy rain. Experts recommend maintaining tire tread depths of at least four millimeters and ensuring proper tire pressure to reduce the risk of losing contact with the road.
