Rwanda and Oman sign strategic economic cooperation agreements

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda is conducting a two-day official visit to Oman on September 7-8, 2026, marking the highest-level contact between the two governments to date. The visit aims to transition diplomatic relations into substantive economic partnerships.

Several landmark cooperation agreements have been signed to deepen strategic ties. These include visa-exemption arrangements for diplomatic, special, and service passport holders to facilitate institutional exchanges. The agreements also cover political consultations, labor cooperation, the avoidance of double taxation, and trade and investment promotion.

Key sectors identified for collaboration include energy and renewables, mining, logistics, aviation, hospitality, healthcare, education, and technology. Specific focus is being placed on freight transportation, the development of dry ports, and agricultural value chains. This cooperation follows previous memorandums signed in January 2026 regarding logistics, aviation, and information technology.
