Rwanda migration strategies drive regional growth, says IOM Chief

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope concluded an official visit to Rwanda, highlighting the country's approach to managing migration as a driver for economic development.

During her visit, Pope met with Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva and other government officials to discuss how labor mobility, skills development, and diaspora engagement can support national and regional priorities. Pope noted that Rwanda has integrated migration into its national development planning to promote safe and regular migration pathways.

The discussions also covered emergency preparedness, anti-human trafficking efforts, and support for returning migrants. Pope emphasized the necessity of international cooperation to maximize the economic benefits of migration and address associated challenges.
