RwandAir fined N15m by Nigerian aviation authority over baggage issue

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir N15 million for violating consumer protection regulations. The sanction follows the airline’s failure to resolve a passenger’s baggage complaint within the timeframe required by aviation laws.

In addition to the fine, the NCAA has ordered RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged luggage and provide $170 in compensation for immediate needs, pursuant to Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

This enforcement action is part of a broader crackdown by the regulator. In December 2024, the NCAA sanctioned several other airlines, including Air Peace, Ethiopian Airlines, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, and Royal Air Maroc, for various infractions such as mishandled luggage, flight delays, and failure to issue timely refunds. Saudi Airlines was also previously fined N6 million for similar consumer protection violations.
