RWE becomes main sponsor of Rot‑Weiss Essen

From 1 July 2024 the German energy group RWE AG will serve as the new main sponsor of third‑division club Rot‑Weiss Essen, with its brand appearing on the front of the first‑team jerseys. The former main sponsor, the ifm group, will stay on the kit as a co‑main sponsor on the left sleeve, while Thyssenkrupp joins as the main partner for the club’s youth centre. All three agreements run for three years and are intended to provide the club with greater financial stability as it pursues promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.

Club officials highlighted the partnership’s local significance. Alexander Rang, board member of Rot‑Weiss Essen, said: “We are not replacing a sponsor but gaining additional possibilities for the club.” RWE CEO Markus Krebber added, “Rot‑Weiss Essen is more than a football club; it is a major showcase of our city.” The sponsors emphasized that they will not interfere in sporting decisions but will support the club’s economic development.
