RWE to receive $1.2 billion settlement to end U.S. offshore wind projects

A report indicates that RWE, a German energy company, is set to receive a $1.2 billion settlement from the Trump administration to relinquish its offshore wind leases in New York, California, and Louisiana.

The administration has historically opposed offshore wind projects, citing concerns regarding cost and environmental impact, while instead prioritizing the expansion of the fossil fuel industry. As part of the agreement, RWE is required to invest in “conventional energy” ventures. This settlement contributes to a total of nearly $4 billion spent on similar wind project settlements.
