Rwenzururu Kingdom clarifies Omusinga Mumbere is in Türkiye for medical review

The Rwenzururu Kingdom has issued a statement to clarify that Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma is not critically ill, dismissing rumors circulating on social media. The monarch traveled to Türkiye on August 27, 2026, following recommendations from his doctors for a routine medical review.

Rwenzururu Prime Minister Kule Benson Baritizale confirmed the trip is a scheduled follow-up, noting that the monarch was previously advised to undergo a review after six months. The kingdom urged the public to disregard unverified reports and requested privacy for the monarch during his assessment.

The clarification comes amid heightened public sensitivity regarding the health of Uganda’s traditional rulers following the recent death of Tooro’s King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
