Ryan Coogler Secures Netflix Deal and Hulu X‑Files Pilot Order

Filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s production company Proximity Media has signed a development deal with Netflix to produce new scripted series. The agreement follows the expiration of Proximity’s previous overall TV deal with Disney. In a joint statement, Coogler and his co‑founders highlighted their goal to create event‑driven stories that spotlight overlooked subjects, while Netflix U.S. and Canada scripted‑series head Jinny Howe praised the partnership and the company’s reputation for distinctive creators.

At the same time, Coogler’s reboot of the sci‑fi series "The X‑Files" is progressing at Hulu, but the streaming service has only ordered a pilot rather than a full season. Actor Himesh Patel explained that Hulu’s cautious, pilot‑first strategy is intended to ensure the revival meets fan expectations before committing to a larger order. The reboot, directed by Coogler and starring Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, is filming in Vancouver and includes original creator Chris Carter as an executive producer.
