Ryan Coogler's Proximity Media signs multi-year series deal with Netflix

Ryan Coogler, together with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, has signed an exclusive multi‑year development agreement with Netflix. Their company Proximity Media will produce original series for the streaming platform, ending a five‑year partnership with Disney+.

The partnership includes pilots such as a new “The X‑Files” series starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, and a live‑action adaptation of the comic‑book drama “Southern Bastards” featuring Kevin Bacon, Erin Kellyman and Tim McGraw. Coogler’s past credits include “Black Panther,” “Sinners,” “Creed” and “Fruitvale Station.”

Netflix highlighted the alignment with Proximity Media’s focus on event‑driven storytelling, while the producers emphasized the chance to bring distinctive narratives to global audiences.
