Ryan Day discusses decision to play defense during Ohio State loss to Texas

Ohio State coach Ryan Day revealed he considered intentionally allowing a Texas touchdown late in the game to preserve more time for a final possession. The decision to play defense instead resulted in a 24-23 loss to the Longhorns.

After Ohio State held a 23-3 lead entering the fourth quarter, Texas mounted a comeback. With approximately 1:23 remaining, Texas drove to the one-yard line. Day stated that after the defense recorded a stop on second down, the coaching staff decided to ‘take our chances’ and attempt to stop Texas for the remaining two downs rather than letting them score quickly.

Ultimately, Texas scored a rushing touchdown on third down, leaving Ohio State with only 25 seconds and no timeouts for their final drive. The loss drops Ohio State from its No. 1 ranking.
