Ryan Garcia prepares for WBC title defense against Conor Benn

Ryan Garcia is set to defend his WBC welterweight world title against mandatory challenger Conor Benn on September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Benn, returning to the 147lb division for the first time since April 2022, has indicated he intends to vacate the title and move to a heavier weight class following the bout.

Two-division world champion Jermall Charlo expressed support for Garcia, stating, “I am a Ryan fan, I am not with Conor Benn,” and predicted Garcia would retain his belt. Charlo confirmed he will attend the event.

Tensions have risen between Garcia and Terence Crawford. Garcia accused Crawford of being a “hater” after Crawford was seen visiting Benn’s gym. This follows previous friction where Crawford picked Benn to win the upcoming fight and warned Garcia regarding his preparation. Garcia dismissed the influence of any advisors, stating he does not care who provides guidance to his opponent.
