Ryan Gosling: Saoirse Ronan discusses casting changes

Actress Saoirse Ronan has commented on Ryan Gosling’s departure from the 2009 Peter Jackson drama “My Sister’s Keeper” (In meinem Himmel) prior to filming. Ronan, who played the lead role of Susie Salmon, noted on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that the decision to replace Gosling with Mark Wahlberg was justifiable.

According to Ronan, the separation stemmed from creative differences regarding the portrayal of the character’s father. Gosling had reportedly gained approximately 27 kilograms to embody a heavier version of the character, a transformation that did not align with the director’s vision. While the casting change was disappointing for Ronan at the time, she stated it was not personal, but rather a matter of the production and actor not being on the same page.

Separately, discussions regarding Gosling’s filmography highlight his versatility, noting his transition from independent roles in films like “Lars and the Real Girl” and “Blue Valentine” to major science fiction successes such as “Project Hail Mary” and “First Man.”
