Ryan Martin suggested as candidate for Detroit Red Wings GM

Following the withdrawal of Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg from consideration, reports suggest Ryan Martin is a logical candidate for the Detroit Red Wings' general manager search. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun noted his surprise that the organization has not yet interviewed Martin, who currently serves as the associate general manager for the New York Rangers.

Martin possesses extensive history with the Red Wings, having spent 14 to 16 seasons within the organization. His previous roles included serving as an assistant general manager and running the Grand Rapids Griffins, the team's AHL affiliate. During his tenure in Detroit, he was involved in salary-cap management, CBA compliance, and contract negotiations, and was part of the front office during the 2008 Stanley Cup championship.

The Red Wings face increasing time pressure as training camp is scheduled to open on September 17. The search is considered urgent as the team must address several immediate business matters, including contract negotiations for restricted free agent Simon Edvinsson.
