Ryan Murphy names Roanoke as favorite American Horror Story season

Showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed that his favorite season of ‘American Horror Story’ is Roanoke, the sixth installment of the anthology series. In an interview with Vogue, Murphy noted that while Roanoke is often a polarizing choice among fans due to its unconventional format—utilizing both a paranormal mockumentary and found-footage styles—he personally enjoyed the structural and dramaturgical challenges it presented.

As the franchise prepares for its upcoming thirteenth season, titled ‘American Horror Story: 13’, Murphy is set to return to the director's chair for the pilot episode, marking his first time directing the series in over a decade. The new season is expected to feature returning veterans, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters, playing multiple roles.
