Mayday film starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh to premiere on Apple TV+

The action-comedy film ‘Mayday’ is set to premiere globally on Apple TV+ on September 4, 2026. Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the film stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in an unlikely buddy-comedy partnership set during the Cold War in 1987.

Reynolds portrays Lieutenant Troy ‘Assassin’ Kelly, a US Navy pilot whose reconnaissance mission goes wrong when his plane is shot down over the Soviet Union. He is rescued by Nikolai Ustinov, played by Branagh, an eccentric former KGB agent who is an admirer of American culture. The plot follows the duo as they attempt an escape from hostile territory.

During recent red carpet promotions in New York City, Reynolds also addressed fan speculation regarding the return of Deadpool and Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following a viral teaser from the D23 event.
