Ryan Reynolds' R.I.P.D. exits Netflix as studios distance amid legal controversy

The 2013 comic‑book film R.I.P.D., starring Ryan Reynolds as a dead‑beat detective, will be removed from Netflix on August 1 after a modest streaming run. The movie, which cost about $150 million and earned roughly $78 million at the box office, has found a niche audience on the platform despite its critical panning.

At the same time, industry insiders say several studios are pulling back from new projects with Reynolds because of the ongoing legal dispute involving his wife Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni. The controversy is reportedly hurting Reynolds's public image and prompting discussions of a career reboot, including a possible sequel with former co‑star Sandra Bullock from their 2009 rom‑com The Proposal.
