Ryan Reynolds shares film anecdotes as Canadian VFX studios adopt game engine tech

Actor Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he previously took props from his film sets, including a Deadpool costume and the iconic ring from the 2011 film ‘Green Lantern’. Reynolds noted that since the ring was a physical prop, it was easy to take, whereas the Green Lantern suit was largely created in post-production.

In the realm of film technology, Canadian visual effects (VFX) studios are increasingly adopting workflows similar to video game development. For the film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, Vancouver-based Framestore handled 200 shots for the ‘Deadpool Corps’ sequence, utilizing digital environments, digital doubles, and simulations.

Modern film production is leveraging real-time rendering engines and LED-volume stages to create flexible environments. Unlike traditional green screens, these tools allow filmmakers to adjust lighting, backgrounds, and camera positions dynamically, borrowing the asset-based flexibility found in modern game engines.
