Ryan Richard James Morgan faces decision in sexual assault trial
A decision is expected on December 14 regarding Ryan Richard James Morgan, a 43-year-old former youth pastor from Nanaimo, British Columbia. Morgan faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under 16. The alleged incidents occurred in 2017 and 2020 in Bella Bella, Nanaimo, and Courtenay, involving two minor girls whose identities are protected by a publication ban.
During closing arguments presented in the B.C. Supreme Court, Crown counsel Tania Holland argued that Morgan used his charismatic status and position of authority at Generations Church to manipulate and exploit the victims. The prosecution contended that Morgan fostered an environment where young girls felt comfortable confiding in him, which he then used to his advantage. Witnesses also testified to Morgan’s influence within the church, suggesting he could control narratives and discredit those who opposed him.
