Ryanair boosts staff bonuses as bag size checks tighten
Ryanair will increase the commission paid to staff for identifying passengers with oversized cabin bags, raising the rate from €2.50 to around €3.50 per bag as the number of offenders falls. Passengers caught with bags that exceed the 40 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm limit are charged a €75 fee. CEO Michael O’Leary also suggested a ban on early‑morning drinking in airports and criticised a €15 million upgrade at Dublin Airport.
The airline’s baggage policy permits one free cabin bag fitting the 40 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm dimensions. Larger bags can be purchased, for example a combined cabin and small hold bag for about €90 on routes such as Poland‑Italy, which is cheaper than the gate‑side surcharge. Passengers are advised to use airport “sizer” devices and consider buying priority baggage options in advance to avoid extra fees.
